Lyrik Cruz: From Humboldt Park to the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Chicago-born choreographer Lyrik Cruz went from dancing on the streets of Humboldt Park to the Super Bowl LX halftime show, where he performed alongside Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga in front of a global audience. In this video, the Puerto Rican dancer, choreographer, and creative director shares how his Latin fusion style took him to Hollywood's biggest stages.

For more than a decade, Lyrik has choreographed and performed for artists including Lizzo, J Balvin, and Becky G. He has done recurring creative work for The Ellen Show, American Idol, and Lip Sync Battle, and appeared on screen in Jane the Virgin, Grey's Anatomy, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Young Sheldon, Dexter: Original Sin, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. His film work includes choreography and performance in In the Heights, Spirited, and SHINE the Movie.

He has been a principal choreographer on legendary director Debbie Allen's creative team for several years, and he has worked closely with actress and producer Gina Rodriguez. His honors include two World Choreography Award nominations, a Chita Rivera Award nomination, and a Telly Award, which place him among the most decorated Latin fusion choreographers in film and television today.

This is the story of a Chicago kid who carried his culture onto the world's biggest stage and never let go of it.
